The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires any driver who receives a roadside inspection to submit it to the motor carrier within 24 hours of receiving the inspection. FMCSA guidelines advise drivers to review roadside inspection documents for accuracy prior to signing or leaving the inspection site. If an out-of-service order is issued in association with any violation, the regulations state no driver should operate such a vehicle until the out of service issues have been rectified and the vehicle can be restored to safe operating condition.
