Did you know: Observable defects

A law enforcement stop for observable defects on a vehicle can result in violations. Common violations include:

  • Brakes (hose/tubing chaffing/kinked, inadequate/contaminated brake linings, brakes out of adjustment)
  • Tires (tire tread depth, flat, ply/belt material exposed)
  • Oil/grease leaks

Preventative maintenance programs can help to reduce observable defects with a thorough pre-trip inspection. Tractor drivers are responsible for inspecting trailers, and this includes during a trailer swap.
