Slow down to prevent loss-of-control accidents; the posted speed limit is not a safe speed when snow and ice are on the roadway. Safety experts recommend commercial drivers turn off the cruise control on the vehicle to remain in complete control in poor weather conditions. They also recommend increasing following distance and never tailgating. Keeping seven seconds or more between the vehicle in front can allow for increased reaction time. If road conditions become unsafe for travel, exit the roadway and find a safe location to park.
