Scopelitis Transportation Consulting is reporting that the top five roadside inspections violations for the past four years are:

• Inoperable required lamp
• State vehicle registration or license plate violation
• Operating a CMV without proof of a periodic inspection
• Brake out of adjustment
• Fire extinguisher violation (not in the vehicle, discharged or unsecured)

A thorough pre-trip inspection can help detect some of these violations prior to being stopped and inspected. Periodically reviewing documents associated with your vehicle, i.e. insurance card, permits, periodic inspection and registration, will ensure they are not expired.
