In the past, hours of service violations tended to focus on violations found regarding drive time, such as 11-hour or 14-hour limits. Enforcement is now seeing an upward trend in violations for false logs. The increase in false log violations is mainly around the misuse of personal conveyance. The top three states for false log violations include Colorado, Wyoming, and Oregon.
The guidance provided by the FMCSA states personal conveyance is not permitted to be used during the following scenarios:
- To further your location towards a pickup or delivery location
- To extend your clock
- To perform any business-related functions – fueling or maintenance
- To return to the point of dispatch
