Driving in snow or other inclement weather can be stressful and fatiguing, regardless of experience level. Commercial drivers should get plenty of rest to ensure safe driving. In addition, planning the route allows commercial drivers to become familiar with fueling and identify possible layover points if they need to stop earlier than anticipated because of poor weather conditions. Commercial drivers should also have an action plan for various scenarios in case their vehicle breaks down. Safety experts recommend having at a minimum the following items: fuel additives, other vehicle fluids, warning triangles, tire chains and a first aid kit for emergency situations.
