JJ Keller reports that the top five vehicle-related violations associated with 2024 roadside inspection data include the following:
• Required lamp not operable or obscured
• No proof of annual inspection
• No (or defective) lighting devices or reflective devices/tape
• Tires flat or leaking
• Fire extinguisher not readily available or secured in the vehicle
To avoid violations, safety experts recommend having a routine maintenance process in place to help minimize defects found during a roadside inspection. Routine maintenance can also help prevent costly breakdowns that occur on the road. During pre-trip and post-trip inspections, safety experts recommend using a checklist to be consistent on all aspects of the vehicle that need to be inspected.
